Memorial Order Process & Timescales
At Rawcliffe’s of Chorley, we aim to make the process of ordering a memorial as clear and straightforward as possible. Below is our step-by-step guide, along with typical timescales.
Our Step-by-Step Order Process
Step 1 – Choosing Your Memorial
Once you have chosen your memorial, our experienced team will guide you through the available options, including any bespoke requirements.
If you already have an inscription in mind, we can also check with the relevant burial authority to ensure the memorial complies with their regulations.
Step 2 – Deposit & Fees
Once you are happy with your chosen memorial and inscription, we require a 20% deposit along with any cemetery or church fees.
Payments can be made via debit/credit card, bank transfer, cash or cheque.
Step 3 – Design & Approval
Our skilled team will prepare a full colour CAD proof for your approval. This can be sent by email or post.
You can request changes until you are completely satisfied. Please ensure all spelling and dates are correct before final approval.
Step 4 – Application Submission
Once approved, we submit the application to the relevant burial authority. Approval typically takes 2–4 weeks but can sometimes take longer.
If your memorial includes a photo plaque, we will request a high-resolution image at this stage.
Step 5 – Approval Granted
Once permission has been received, your memorial can proceed to the next stage.
Step 6 – Production
Your memorial is carefully manufactured by our skilled craftsmen, ensuring the highest standards of quality and finish.
Step 7 – Final Payment
When your memorial is ready for installation, we will request the remaining balance.
You are welcome to view the memorial beforehand or we can provide photographs for approval.
Step 8 – Installation
Your memorial will be installed by our BRAMM and NAMM registered fixers within 7–10 days following final payment.
Completion Timescales
The time required to install a memorial depends on the type of burial and ground conditions which affects settlement time.
- Headstones after burial: TAround 6 months after burial
- Cremation memorials: Can usually be installed immediately
- Strip beam foundations: Allow immediate installation after burial
How long will my memorial take?
Standard or stock memorials typically take 10–12 weeks from approval to installation.
This timeframe begins once permission has been granted by the cemetery or church authority.
Bespoke memorials or special orders may take longer, usually around 14–16 weeks, depending on design complexity, availability and geo-political situations.
While we aim to complete all work within these timeframes, delays can occasionally occur due to factors outside our control, such as council approval times or shipping delays.
